Milton R. Carey, age 86, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his adoring family on Thursday, May 2, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Mary H. (Caterina) Carey, to whom he was wed for fifty-four years.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on December 5, 1937, he was a loving son of the late Milton I. and Florette B. (Trudel) Carey
Milton grew up and was educated in Woonsocket and continued his studies, graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Law Enforcement from Bryant College. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, during the Korean War. He was stationed aboard the USS Kirkpatrick and assisted naval officers as a French interpreter. He was honorably discharged on December 4, 1958.
Mr. Carey was a retired Police Captain having worked for the City of Woonsocket Police Department, a career that spanned over twenty-five years. He had made his home in Mansfield for the past eight years and had previously resided in Anna Maria Island, FL for over twenty years.
A man of strong Christian faith, Mel loving spending time and dining out with family and friends, walking the beautiful beaches of Florida and traveling by way of recreational vehicles. His memberships included the Fraternal Order of Police, the Lodge of Elks in Bradenton, FL and St. Joseph Veterans Association in Woonsocket.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Suzanne Pina and her husband David of Woonsocket, RI, Marie-Ann Tisdell and her husband Norman of Webster, Richard Carey of Smithfield, RI and Diane Sagatis and her husband Stanley of North Carolina. He was the dear brother of Clement Carey of North Smithfield, RI, Harvey Carey of Mississippi, George Carey of Mississippi, Cecile Carey of Florida, Annette Patrice of Florida, Simone Roderick of Florida and the late Thomas Carey and Agnes Carey. He is also survived by his cherished 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, May 10th from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 11th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial, along with military honors will follow at Saint Jean the Baptist Cemetery in Bellingham.
In lieu of flowers, Milton’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
