MESA, AZ ---- Junie L. Landry, 93, passed away after a sudden illness on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
She was born in May, 1930 in Laconia, NH, to Harry S. and Thelma I. (Trumbull) Waite.
She attended Laconia High School while living at 569 Union Avenue–a fact she often brought up. While there, she met her future husband, Ramon Margeson, still serving in the US Army.
Though she and Ramon would go on to have three daughters, in the end they divorced. For many years Junie worked full-time at JJ Newberry’s in Laconia, eventually becoming their office manager. While there, she was invited to join the local chapter of the BPW (Business and Professional Women’s Club).
In 1969 she met and married Joseph Raymond Landry, a widower with seven children (all girls!), four still in school. They lived on Summer Street in Northfield for many years, and when the last of the children left home, they enjoyed activities and events of their favorite organizations and clubs. Junie was a member of the Tilton-Northfield Congregational Church Ladies Circle, the Twin Rivers Red Hat Society, and the Laconia Emblem Club #80, serving as President (twice), and as NH District Deputy. She and Joe (also an officer of the Elks Club) traveled to BPOE conventions in many states in the US. Junie loved to travel.
Joseph passed away in 1991, and in 1994, Junie moved into an apartment at The Northfield Village. She made many enduring friendships there, but in 2019 she relocated to a retirement community in Mesa, AZ, to be closer to two of her daughters. She spent her final years enjoying her new friends, playing “skippo” with all who dared, crocheting old -fashioned doilies, and completing her fill-in word puzzles—often while sipping on a Southern Comfort.
Along with her husband, Junie was predeceased by two daughters, Janet Ouellette and Patricia Hopkins. Surviving family members include daughters, Nancy (Keith) Thome of Mesa, AZ,; Wanda Margeson (Charles Thibodeau) of Puyallup, WA; Karan (Hermann) Schreiber of Tucson, AZ; Carol Deshaies of Laconia, NH; Nancy (Michael) Millette of Gilmanton, NH; Brenda Landry of Lincoln, NH; Joanne (Syd) Barton of Daytona, FL; Laurie Davis of Mesa, AZ; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, NH.
As for flowers/memorial donations, her favorite response to such things was always, “oh, whatever you want”. Oh, she will be missed.
