Karen Palmer Hendrix, 80, of Tifton passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church in Tifton with the Rev. Leeann Culbreath officiating. Mrs. Hendrix will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The service will be livestreamed on Saint Anne’s Facebook page.
Cody Palmer, Blake Palmer, Adam Palmer, Caleb Osborne, Jaime Patrick, Ray Cross, Mark Myers, James Palmer and Bailey Lawson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Camellia Garden Club of Tifton.
Born January 18, 1944, in Chicago (Cook County), Illinois, Mrs. Hendrix was the daughter of the late Carl Vernon Palmer and Doris Jane Smith Palmer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert “Herb” Grady Hendrix, Sr.
Mrs. Hendrix was a member of the Camellia Garden Club; the council of Garden Clubs of Tifton; and the South Georgia Judges Council. She was an accredited flower show judge; and she served as a board member and convention member for the Garden Clubs of Georgia. She was elected as a Past Co-President of the Garden Council; and she was appointed to Garden Clubs of Georgia Publication and Publicity Chairman.
She enjoyed knitting hats for preemies and chemotherapy patients in the hospital; and she served as a volunteer for the Tifton Arts Council. She was a member of the Keep Tift Beautiful Board; and in 2014, she received the George A. Wright Memorial Award for her volunteer work. She was also a member of Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church in Tifton.
Mrs. Hendrix is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Josh and Lana Hendrix of Tifton and Brandon and Courtney Goins of High Point, North Carolina; two daughters and one son-in-law, Katie Cuellar and Kelly and William Bowen, all of Tifton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Scott and Kathy Palmer of Wayne, Pennsylvania, Jeff and Rhonda Palmer of Dahlonega and Rick and Gaye Palmer of Dawsonville; and her grandchildren, Sara Katherine Bowen, Megan Bowen, Anna Bowen, Hunter Nichols, Chase Bennett and his wife Maricela, Hollie Lawson and her husband Bailey, Abbigail Hendrix, Mattie Mae Hendrix, Kallon Goins, Madison Goins, Kaylee Goins and Kayden Goins.
