The Rev. Robert Langston Thompson, 92, of Tifton passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Maple Court in Tifton. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with the Dr. Harris Malcom officiating. The Rev. Thompson will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 11, 2024, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Born August 29, 1931, in Kathwood, South Carolina, the Rev. Thompson was the son of the late Boyd Lee Thompson and Anna Kate Warr Thompson. He was also preceded in death by one son, Blake Andrew Thompson; and one sister, Gloria Young. Before retiring, he was a minister and pastored Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kelltown for several years. He was also a retired educator; and he was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church.
The Rev. Thompson is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Smith Thompson of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Bryan Timothy and Barbara Thompson of Oglethorpe; one daughter and son-in-law Bethany and Martin Mahon of Wake Forest, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Benjamin Thompson and his wife, Renee of Leesburg, Brandon Thompson of Atlanta and Walker Holloway of Wake Forest, North Carolina; and four great-grandchildren, Madelyn Thompson, Elizabeth Thompson, Wesley Thompson and Abigail Thompson.
