Obituary

CHICOPEE – Donald A. “Izzy” Isabelle, 83, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, April 29, 2024. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on Church Street in Chicopee Falls on May 12, 1940, a beloved son of the late Donat A. Isabelle and Blanche L. (Limoges) Isabelle Dube. He was raised and educated in Chicopee where he lived all of his life. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army and attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. Izzy was last employed in the Maintenance Department for the Chicopee Housing Authority and previously was employed in the construction industry as a Mason Tender. He was a member and was currently serving as Commander of the AMVETS Post 12, a member of the American Legion Post 353, and the Veterans Memorial Patriotic Committee, all in Chicopee. He was previously a member of the Tigers Athletic Club in Chicopee. He was a longtime communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee. He was an avid motorcyclist, always seeking the “big one” in the oceans of Maine, and was forever a prankster. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Shirley A. (Boudreau) Sienkiewicz Isabelle. They were married on May 30, 1968 at Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 55 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving daughters, Sherry A. Kezer and her husband, John, and SueAnn R. Theroux and her partner, Mark Orzolek, all of Chicopee; His four cherished grandchildren, Natasha B. Kezer and her partner, Kai Lobdell Pierce, Seth J. Kezer, Grace L. Theroux, and Luke A. Theroux; his three dear sisters, Rita Pellerin, and his twin sister, Claire Corley and her husband, Kevin, all of Chicopee, and Dianne Isabelle and her husband, John “Jake” Strobel, of Holyoke; his two dear sisters in law, Marie Appleby and her husband, Paul, of Hadley, and Louise Sienkiewicz-Sawka and her husband, Michael Sawka, of Land O' Lakes, FL; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved granddaughter, Olivia A. Kezer who was Called Home on May 15, 1999; and his two dear brothers in law, Paul Pellerin and Edward Sienkiewicz. His funeral will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Prayer Service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. His burial will follow the Prayer Service with United States Army Military Honors at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
