Earl Borden Wordell Jr, 55, of Little Compton RI passed away suddenly and peacefully at home on April 24, 2024.
Son of the late Earl Wordell Sr and Judith Wordell he leaves behind his beloved fiancé Amy Petrone and his son Samuel Borden Wordell, the Light of his life.
Earl was born on February 9, 1969 at Newport Hospital in Newport, Rhode Island and was raised in Little Compton, Rhode Island where he attended Wilbur McMahon school and later Middletown High School. He was a natural athlete and excelled at most sports particularly soccer and basketball. In 1987 Earl was selected to play for the prestigious American Soccer Ambassadors on the groups annual European tour traveling to play soccer with high school students from the USA, England, Holland and Belgium.
After graduating high school Earl worked as a landscaper for many years before working as geotechnical drill technician in Boston. More than 20 years ago he started his own landscaping company where he primarily worked in Little Compton. Earl suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lyme for many years which eventually took a toll on his body causing extraordinary, chronic pain. Even through his pain he courageously managed to keep working up until his passing. A testament to the heroic man he was.
Earl’s hard work and dedication to the people he loved was his greatest strength. He was an inspiration to those closest to him especially while battling his disease.
Earl is also survived by his siblings Richard Wordell, Lisa Rodrigues, George Wordell and Brian Wordell as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and many devoted clients.
He was deeply loved by so many and will be sorely missed.
