René R. Robert, 80, of Smithfield, passed away on Sunday April 21st in the Briarcliffe Gardens, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Kathleen (Mellor) Robert. They had been married for 53 years.
Born in Central Falls, a son of the late Joseph and Rosa (Garand) Robert. He had lived in Smithfield for 44 years previously living in Johnston for 9 years.
René was a US Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Antarctica serving as a Radio Operator. He had earned a Good Conduct medal, Antarctic medal and Bronze Wintered Over Clasp. Upon his discharge from wartime service, René enlisted with the US Navel Reserves.
René was a Master Plumber and owned and operated his own plumbing business R K & Sons Plumbing and Heating in Smithfield, RI.
He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Smithfield. He was an avid model train collector, preferring Lionel trains. He treasured spending time with his grandchildren, Zachary, and Mallary.
Besides his wife he leaves his sons, Joseph A. Robert and his wife Toni of Greenville and Matthew R. Robert of Greenville. He was the grandfather of Zachary and Mallary Robert both of Greenville. He was the brother of Alice Quattromani of Clearwater, FL, Cecile Tomasso of Las Vegas, NV, Irene Therault of Fredericksburg, VA and Rita Gilbert of Bethel, ME. He was the brother of the late Richard Robert.
