Mary Brown Allen, 88, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2002, at Southern Care Assisted Living in Tifton. A graveside funeral service was held for Mrs. Allen at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where she was laid to rest. The Rev. William Beasley and Dale Elizy officiated.
Born November 7, 1913, in Dooly County, Mrs. Allen was the daughter of the late Amory Brown and Beulah Short Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Otis "Doc" Allen. Before retiring, she taught 8th grade English and was on the faculty of Tift County Junior High for many years. She was a member of Tifton's First United Methodist Church; and she had lived in Tifton since 1944.
Mrs. Allen is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Beulah and James H. Nettles, Sr. of Savannah; and one nephew, Tom W. Harper of Savannah.
