Helen Thrasher Allen, 84, of Chula passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at Affinity Health Group in Tifton. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2002, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. W. Ches Smith, III and the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mrs. Allen was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery,
Mrs. Allen's grandsons and her son-in-law served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Cheerful Workers Sunday School Class at Tifton's First Baptist Church.
Born June 7, 1918, in Tift County, Mrs. Allen was the daughter of the late James W. Thrasher and Vannie Goggans Thrasher. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hansel Wilson Allen, Sr. Before retiring, she was a case worker with the Department of Family and Children Services; and she was a member of Tifton's First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Allen is survived by two sons, Hansel Wilson Allen, Jr. and James L. "Jimmy" Allen, both of Chula; one daughter, Shirley Allen Underwood of Chula; one brother, Billy Thrasher of Pensacola, Florida; one sister, Ruth Thrasher McCormick of Tifton; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
