Domenica (Mae) Cousineau, 96, of Whitman, Massachusetts, died peacefully on April 22 after a long illness.
Mae was born in 1927 in Boston, Massachusetts, the fifth born child of the late Salvatore and Alfia (D’amico) Spatola. Mae was raised in Boston where she attended Boston schools and graduated from Girls High School in 1945.
In 1953, she married Marcel (Marc) Cousineau and later moved to their home in Whitman where they raised their three children. In addition, Mae worked many years as a bookkeeper until her retirement at the age of 79 from Health Imperatives of Southeastern MA. In retirement, Mae loved to read and volunteered at the Whitman Library. She enjoyed travel and trips to Foxwoods, family gatherings, chair yoga, shopping….and chocolate.
During her years in the town of Whitman she was a member of the Council on Aging and loved to chat with her friends at the Whitman Senior Center. Mae also was a communicate at the Holy Ghost Church in Whitman and member of the Women’s Sodality.
Mae was generous and kindhearted, a wonderful cook and always made room for one more at her table. She dedicated her life to nurturing her family and creating a warm, loving home. Mae will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love and dedication to her family. She was known for her warm smile, her ability to bring joy to everyone around her. Her legacy of love and strength will continue to inspire those who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Marc, brothers Salvatore, Domenic and Joseph Spatola and sister Zina Gravina.
She is survived by her children, Michelle Cousineau and boyfriend Bob of Hanson; Michael Cousineau and girlfriend Cindy of Whitman; Valerie Johnson and husband Jim of Hanson. She is also survived by her sister-in- law Aurora, cousin Connie and many nieces, nephews, and countless friends she made along the way.
Family and friends are invited to attend Mae’s visiting hours May, 1st from 9:00-11:00 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A burial will follow at St James Cemetery, Harvard Street, Whitman.
