John J. Mandile, Jr. passed away peacefully at the Winchester Hospital on April 20th. He was 87. Raised in Medford, he was the son of the late John J. and Rose C. (Giardina) Mandile.
John served in the United States Marine Corps during the early stages of the Vietnam War. After his military service, John was appointed to the Medford Police Department and served the people of Medford for nearly 36 years. He was remembered as a good police officer who served his community well. He rose through the ranks over the years, reaching the rank of Lieutenant. John was devoted to his family and that was his primary interest in life.
As a younger man John enjoyed playing softball. He loved time with his wife of 64 years and being with his children and grandchildren. For 30 years, he and Angela enjoyed the long drive down to Naples, Florida where they enjoyed their winter vacation and spending time with their friends. Once springtime came around they looked forward to the drive home to enjoy the company of their children and grandchildren.
The beloved husband of Angela (Miceli) Mandile, John was a devoted father to John and his wife Catherine of Boston, Robert and his wife Jennie of Reading, Joseph and his wife Erin of Westford and Lisa Frechette and her husband Steven of Reading. He was a loving grandfather to John, David, Thomas, Robert, Anthony, Jeffrey, Casey, Emily, Ethan, Asher, Abigail and Amanda. John also leaves his beloved great-granddaughter Catalina. The dear brother of Josephine Prendergast and her husband Jim of York Beach and the late Marion Cafazzo and her surviving husband John of Lynnfield, John was the dear brother-in-law of Mary Flynn and her husband Kevin of Cape Cod.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family on Saturday, April 27 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford from 9 – 11 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
