Celia C. (Gismondi) Denehy, a lifelong resident of Malden and beloved wife of the late Robert R. Denehy, passed away at her home on Monday morning, April 22, 2024. She was 100 years old.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on July 7, 1923, she was the beloved daughter of the late Alfred and Olga (Ascani) Gismondi.
Celia worked as a Welder and know as one of the 2000 "Winnie the Welders" of WWII. These women replaced the men that welded ships during WWII. In her spare time, Celia loved to knit, play Bingo, dance, sew, travel, spend time with her family. She will be dearly missed.
Celia is survived by her loving sons; Thomas E. and his wife Tricia Denehy of Malden, Robert and his wife Pamela Denehy of Salem and Joseph and his wife Elisa Denehy of Fairfax Station, Virginia, grandchildren, Kim, Keith, Bryan, Matthew, Katie, Robbie, Kelly, Kristen, Haley, Timmy, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was also the sister of the late Americo Gismondi and Florence Magliozzi.
Her funeral will be held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden at 10 AM. Interment will be in the St. Michael Cemetery in Boston. Donations in Celia's memory may be made to the Malden Senior Community Center, 7 Washington Street, Malden, MA 02148.
