Obituary

Thomas E. Trainor Jr., 88, of Wakefield formerly of Winthrop passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at the Wakefield Center nursing home surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born October 4, 1935 in Winthrop, Massachusetts, a son of the late Thomas and Gladys (Koczarska) Trainor.

He was a graduate of Winthrop High School, where he played football and baseball. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return to the States, he completed his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and received his master’s degree in social studies from UMass Boston.

He began his teaching career at Winthrop High School. Tom later went on to teach for many years at Northeast Regional Vocational Technical School as a Social Studies teacher. He also coached football and baseball at school.

Tom was an avid reader and loved to listen to classical music. He was a member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078 and the Saugus V.F.W.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Paula (Magee) Trainor; two daughters, Lee Trainor and Erin Trainor; three sisters, Kathleen Tiernan, Mary Anne Griffin, and Mary Ellen Thims; also a grandson, Tim Stanley; and several nieces and nephews.

Tom was predeceased by his daughter, Christine Trainor.

A private graveside service was held on Tuesday April 23, 2024 at 11:00AM in the Winthrop Cemetery.
