Emily Roosa, 97 years of age, of Eastham, MA, passed away on April 16, 2024, peacefully, at home, and surrounded by her family.
Emily was born on October 20, 1926 in Hudson, NY, the daughter of Viola (Clum) and Donald LaBrie. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1944, received her Bachelor of Education from SUNY New Paltz in 1948, and her M.S. in Education in 1974.
While at SUNY New Paltz, she met and fell in love with Jack Roosa. They married in 1950.
Emily taught the younger elementary grades in various schools in the Hudson Valley of New York State, including Ockawamick Elementary, Durham Elementary, and Hurley Elementary.
During her long and well-deserved retirement, Emily split her time between Naples, FL and Eastham, MA. In Naples, she tutored for the Naples Public School reading program and was a member of the Naples Garden Club. In Eastham, she was a docent at the Swift Daly House and did gardening and kitchen work for clam chowder dinners at the Eastham Methodist Church. In Naples and Eastham, she took daily long walks with family and friends, played bridge, golf, tennis, and mahjong, and spent quality time with Jack, her children, her grandchildren, and her friends.
Emily had a sharp and active mind and raised her children to be independent thinkers.
Emily is survived by her three children: Gary Roosa (Dianne Maddaloni), Beth Roosa (John Patty), and Jane Roosa (Tom Kowalczyk), her six grandchildren: Jeremy Roosa, Susan Roosa (Rob Weitz), Anna Kowalczyk (Daniel Cohen), Sonya Kowalczyk, David Patty, and Christopher Patty, and by her 2 great-grandchildren: Samuel Weitz and Nathaniel Weitz.
The immediate family will hold a private memorial service and is planning a larger gathering for family and friends for the summer.
