Obituary

Neil Gardner Patt, 90, of Edgartown, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on Martha’s Vineyard.

Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts in 1933 to the late Donald and Mary (Perry) Patt, Mr. Patt graduated from Weymouth High School in 1951. Upon graduation, he entered the Naval Submarine Reserve and later volunteered for active service where he was assigned as a communications officer to the submarines USS-Barb and the USS Barracuda. Following his Honorable Discharge, Mr. Patt earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He used that degree to advance various projects for Bell Laboratories, NASA’s Apollo Program, and the US Department of Transportation.

In retirement, Mr. Patt enjoyed traveling throughout the United States National Parks, Italy, Ireland and Alaska. He also loved “tooling around” the Island in his 1993 Jeep Cherokee as the “official” tour guide for family and friends. While he was excited about his travels, he was most comfortable at home, engaged in a serious game of cribbage with family and friends on the front porch.

Mr. Patt was the husband of the late Elaine (Bergquist) Patt for over 50 years and the brother of Judith Patt of Hingham, Massachusetts; Christine Harrison of Social Circle, Georgia; and Leonard Patt of Seattle, Washington. He will be lovingly remembered by sons Stephen Patt of Pembroke, Massachusetts and Ronald Patt of Walpole, Massachusetts; daughters Joanne Moulder of Bear, Delaware and Donna Henderson of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts and longtime friend and partner of 17 years Kathleen McGann of Waltham, Massachusetts. He was the cherished grandfather of nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and beloved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at Fern Hill Cemetery on High Street in Hanson, Massachusetts on Thursday, April 25th, at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vineyard Hospice and Palliative Care, 459 State Road #18, Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts 02568.
