DI GIACOMO Margaret “Gret” of Dedham, Mass. passed away on April 16, 2024, at the age of 96. One of ten children, she was the daughter of Bridgette (Cooney) and Edward Maher of Borrisokane, County Tipperary. She was predeceased by her husband Louis and son Edward. Gret was the mother of Terry Di Giacomo (MaryJo Sondrini) of Florence, Mass. and Charles Di Giacomo of Toms River, NJ. She leaves her five grandsons, Dan, Nick, Joe, Vincent, and Rudy, all DiGiacomos, and her daughter in law Lynne Butler. Gret was born in Ireland and later became a US citizen, but she never stopped being fiercely Irish. She had several jobs, among them working for the Dedham Police Dept., the Dedham School system, and most recently, with the security company for the NE Patriots. But, the one thing in common was she liked interacting with people, and usually they liked interacting with her. Gret had no problem stepping up, being a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, baking for local cake sales and offering help wherever it was needed. Her heart was generous and she never walked into a party with her arms swinging. Gret was an avid gardener and animal lover. She had a variety of dogs, cats, chickens, bunnies, geese and ducks, even hatching some in her kitchen oven when her incubator broke down. It was not unusual to get calls from the neighbors "your geese are in my pool" or "your ducks are on top of my chimney". Gret was a loving mother and grandmother and a treasured friend who will be missed by many.
