Obituary

FORT LAUDEDALE, FL - George S. Lorkiewicz, 91, formerly of Dudley, MA died Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at home in the presence of his family. His wife of 56 years, Phyllis M. (Hobson) Lorkiewicz, died in 2014.

He leaves 3 sons, Kenneth J. Lorkiewicz and his wife Pat of Willow Springs, NC, Mark S. Lorkiewicz, and Brian G. Lorkiewicz of Myrtle Beach, SC; a daughter, Melinda of Fort Lauderdale with whom he lived; 4 grandchildren, Timothy, Zachary, Brandon and Kara; 2 great-grandchildren, Lucille and Vincent; and nephews and nieces. He also leaves his beloved cavapoo Cheerio. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa in 2001, by his grandson Matthew and by his brother Bernard.

He was born at home in Dudley on July 29, 1932, the son of Stanislaus M. and Veronica S. (Tadla) Lorkiewicz and lived there until moving to Florida in 2020. He was a graduate of Bay Path Regional Vocational High School in Charlton and earned a Bachelor of Science from Fitchburg State College and then a master’s degree from American International University.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member and past commander of the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post #184 where he helped with renovations.

Mr. Lorkiewicz was a self-employed carpenter for many years. He taught carpentry at the former Dudley Junior High School and at Bay Path Regional. He then was a computer teacher in the Southbridge School System before retiring in 1997.

George was a longtime member of Saint Andrew Bobola Church and was instrumental in helping to install the church’s organ and in replacing the cross on the steeple. He also organized parish festivals for several years. He was a board member and ten-year past president of the Webster-Dudley Boys & Girls Club where he currently held the title of director emeritus.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, April 23, from the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, MA with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main Street, Dudley. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster with the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council performing the military honors. Visitation will be held Monday, April 22, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in the funeral home. Donations in his name may be made to the Webster-Dudley Boys & Girls Club, 55 Oxford Avenue, Dudley, MA 01571.
