CHICOPEE – Mary Jane (Davis) Fontaine, 82, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Ayer, Massachusetts on December 12, 1941, a beloved daughter of the late James H. and Lillian M. (Legree) Davis and lived most of her life in Chicopee. From 2006 to 2020, Mary Jane and her husband, Rene lived in Palm Bay, Florida. Mary Jane was employed for many years as a Head Cook at Chicopee Comprehensive High School before retiring in 2004. During her leisure time, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, tending to her flower garden and cooking for her family and many friends. She especially enjoyed going on cruises with her husband, Rene. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Most of all, she loved her family and her many friends. She leaves her beloved husband and soul mate, Rene F. Fontaine. They were married on July 9, 1960 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 63 years of happiness together. She also leaves her three loving children, Debbie Guntly and her husband, John, of Chicopee, Doreen A. Fontaine of Pittsfield, and Kevin S. Fontaine of Chicopee; her two cherished grandchildren, Joshua F. Guntly and Caitlin C. Guntly, both of Chicopee; her three dear brothers, Richard Davis and Thomas Davis and his wife, Valerie, all of Chicopee, and John Davis and his wife, Debbie, of Ludlow; her two dear brothers-in-law, Roger Fontaine and Eugene Fontaine, both of Chicopee; her dear sister-in-law, Simone Grandbois of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her dear siblings, James Davis, Robert Davis, William Davis, Raymond Davis and Marguerite Brault. Her funeral will be held on Monday morning, April 29, 2024 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday morning, April 29, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. before the Mass. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
