MEREDITH ---- Constance “Connie” Joan Welch, 89, of Meredith, NH, passed away at Golden View Health Care Center on the morning of Thursday, April 4, 2024.
Connie was born February 13,1935, in Groveton, NH, the daughter of the late William D. Connolly and Blanche M. (Bisson) Connolly.
She spent her childhood in the Groveton and Berlin, NH areas. Mom often talked of her grandfather working on the railroad and spending summers on South Pond in Stark with relatives.
As a young girl Connie would ride the train alone from Groveton to Berlin to visit and stay with relatives. Mom would remark about Camp Stark, the POW camp and comment how the guards and German inmates had a good relationship, to this day.
Connie spent most of her adult working career living in Plymouth and working as a nurse at the Speare Hospital. Furthering her education and earning a bachelor’s degree, she took a position at the New Hampshire State School, in Laconia, running a department until the school closed. She finished her career at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, while also doing home care during this time.
She retired and moved with her husband to Moultonborough and then to Laconia. She loved summer theatres, entertaining, dining out, and trips to the beach. We all remember her little black Ford Pinto bought new, just for her new job at the State School in Laconia. Mom was well known around town for her car.
Connie loved helping and taking care of people. And most of all, her children and grandchildren meant the world to her.
She is predeceased by her husband Frederick J. Welch and daughter Daphne Thomas. She is survived by her sons Kevin Thomas and wife, Lane, of Sandwich, NH; Stephen Thomas and wife, Penny, of Madison, NH, stepchildren Frederick J. Welch, Jr., Daniel Welch, and Debbie Welch. She also leaves behind her granddaughter and step-granddaughters.
The family would like to thank the Golden View Health Care Center. Special thanks to the nurses, staff and hospice for all the support keeping mom comfortable.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Village Cemetery, Meredith, NH.
