Samuel Myers McAllister, Sr., 63, of Tifton passed away Monday, October 6, 2003, at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at Liberty Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Gerald Purvis and the Rev. Gary Cadwell officiating. Mr. McAllister was laid to rest at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Tifton.
Teh deacons of Liberty Baptist Church in Tifton served as pallbearers.
Born October 17, 1939, in Tift County, Mr. McAllister was the son of the late James Cauley McAllister and Erma Lou Bowen McAllister. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James Otis McAllister and John Henry McAllister; and one sister, Erma Jean Yarbrough. Before retiring, he was a mechanic with Reliable Tractor Company in Tifton; and he was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mr. McAllister is survived by his wife, Mary Reynolds McAllister of Tifton; one son, Samuel Myers McAllister, Jr. of New Orleans, Louisiana; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Michael Petty of Marianna, Florida and Marcia and Steve Hughes of Savannah; one brother, Carl Franklin McAllister of Tifton; three sisters, Frances Marie McBrayer and Mary Lee Ford, both of Tifton and Betty Sue Rainey of Ideal; five grandchildren, Mallory Petty and Hank Petty, both of Marianna, Florida and Steven Hughes, Hannah Hughes and Samuel Hughes, all of Savannah.
