Homer Moses "H. M." Moore, Jr., 80, of Tifton passed away Thursday, August 14, 2003, at Tift Health Care. His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2003, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Eddie Allen and the Rev. Calvin Bobo officiating. Mr. Moore was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Moore's nephews served as pallbearers.
Born June 26, 1923, in Turner County. Mr. Moore was the son of the late Homer Moses Moore, Sr. and mattie Clifford Nipper Moore. He was also preceded in death by one son, Steve Anthony Moore, who passed away in 1996; one brother, Johnny H. Moore; and two sisters, Margaret M. Pendley and Uldene Moore. He graduated from Sumner High School. Before retiring, he was a career veteran in the United States Air Force and served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He served 21 years for his country and was very dedicated to our country. After retiring from the military, he retired from Abraham Baldwin College in the computer center as a programmer for 20 years He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Tifton and the Tifton Masonic Lodge. He also coached Little League ball for many years and will be remembers as Sergeant Moore or Sergeant Arnold. he was dedicated to his ball team.
Mr. Moore was a loving husband and father and loved his grandchildren dearly.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Zeola Purvis Arnold Moore of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Gene Jr and Reese Arnold of Ocilla; five grandchildren and their spouses, Gene "Shotgun" III and Jennifer Arnold, Tate and Amy Arnold, Scott Moore, Shelley Moore and Allison Moore; one great-grandson, Morgan E. Arnold, IV; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Hullett Moore of Ashburn, Richard and Glenda Moore of Cairo and Ralph and Kathryn Moore of Leesburg; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Wylene and Wilburn Strenth of Sylvester and Ruth Dowdy Moore of Cordele; a brother-in-law and his wife, Ray and Susie Pendley of Warwick; several nieces and nephews; a special niece and nephews, Diane Young Cowden and Bill of Tifton; and a special great-nephew, Mark Giddens of Sylvester.
