Lamar Jones, 78, of Tifton passed away Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, 15, 2003, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Jimmie Hinson and the Rev. T. Manuel Johnson officiating. Mr. Jones was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Jones' grandchildren served as pallbearers.
Born October 19, 1924, in Tift County, Mr. Jones as the son of the late Clyde Jones and Bessie Hester Jones. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Jones; and three brothers. He was a retired farmer; and he served in the United States Army during World War II. He had lived in Tift County his entire life.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Virginia Whitworth Jones of Tifton; two sons, Ernest Jones and David Jones, both of Tifton; three daughters, Jean Hightower of Tifton, Joanna Lawson of Lenox and Norma Ramsey of Byron; one brother, Ray Jones of Omega; one sister, Myrtle Jones of Ashburn; fifteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
