Obituary

Margaret “Peg” Farrell, 92, of Hilton Head, SC and formerly of Worcester and Brockton, MA died Saturday, April 6th 2024 at home. Her husband, William Farrell died in September 2023. She leaves two daughters; Margaret Farrell and her partner Carl Kipp of Columbus, OH, and Marybeth Mehl and her husband, Fred of Whitman, MA; two sons, Christopher Farrell and his wife, Jill Eklund, and James Farrell, all of Rochester, MA; three granddaughters, Siobhan, Lillie, and Maggie. She was predeceased by her infant brother, Donald.

She was born in Worcester the daughter of the late Guy and Margaret (O’Connor) Metcalf and graduated from North High School.

Peg touched the lives of many with her kindness, dedication, and gentle spirit. She started her career at Heald Machine Company in Worcester before becoming a sample maker for many years, bringing creativity and precision to everything she did. During her career, Peg contributed her talents to various companies including Garland, New England Macintosh, Tica/Century, and Leo Narduchi, where her skills and craftsmanship were truly appreciated by all who had the pleasure of working alongside her. Peg also taught adult education classes in sewing at Brockton High School Night School and even made hats for Carly Simon’s Shop.

She was not only a dedicated professional but also a devoted member of St. Margaret’s Church of Brockton and St. Francis by the Sea Church of Hilton Head. Peg was an enthusiast of flea markets, antique stores, and interior decorating.

In her leisure time in Hilton Head, she found joy in hosting sewing & knitting clubs, relaxing on the beach, immersing herself in the pages of fiction books, completing crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and traveling to the Mediterranean and Alaska.

Above all, Peg treasured the moments spent with her granddaughters, creating lasting memories and sharing her wisdom and love with them. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of warmth, creativity, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Her graveside service will be privately held in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Worcester Art Museum.
