Richard Mahar, age 78, passed away on April 13, 2024 at the Agawam South Rehab and Nursing Home. He was born on July 19, 1945 in Springfield, a son of the late Edward and Pearl (Sherman) Mahar. Richard served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He later worked as a mail clerk for the U.S. Post Office for many years before he retired. He was a member of the VFW, was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed to collect coins. He is survived by his wife Denise (Lefebvre) Mahar of Chicopee; two daughters, Sharon Martin and her husband Christopher Martin of West Springfield and Christine Fimbel and her husband Thomas Fimbel of Roanoke, VA; two sons, Edward Mahar and his wife Robin Mahar of Chicopee and David Mahar of Longmeadow; one brother David Mahar of Chicopee and one sister Kathleen Bauer of East Longmeadow along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brothers Gary Mahar and Fredrick “Freddy” Mahar. Committal prayers and military honors will be rendered in the Chapel of the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 9:00 AM.
