William H. Longmaid, 97, of Londonderry, NH died Friday April 12, 2024 in The Arbors of Bedford, NH. He was born on February 20, 1927, in Larchmont, NY, the son of the late Richard and Katherine (Bush) Longmaid.
William attended North Conway Grammar School in NH. Bill was a US Navy Hospital Corpsman serving during World War II in Guam and continued to serve with the Naval Reserves for approximately 30 years. He graduated from Philips Exeter Academy, Exeter, NH and went on to attend Harvard University before graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of New Hampshire. William later received his Master’s Degree from Boston State College. He retired from the Milford School System where he taught school for many years. A longtime member of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Derry, NH, he served the church as a Eucharistic Minister.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Deneault of Londonderry, three daughters, Katherine Johnson of Arlington, MA, June White of Clinton, ME, and Linda Zaffini of Bow, NH, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one brother, Luscombe Longmaid of NY. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ingrid B. Longmaid in 1998, and by his two brothers, Tasker and David Heard.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 1:00pm at the Church of the Transfiguration, 1 Hood Rd., Derry, NH. Burial will take place at a later date.
