Daggett, Brian Carl, 74, of Wellesley, MA, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, MA, following a long illness. A Memorial Service will be held on May 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, 148 Brook St., in Wellesley. Brian was born in Wellesley on October 7, 1949, to Albert Stephen (“Al”) Daggett and Signe Lillian (“Lillian” or “Lil”) Westergren Daggett. He graduated from Wellesley High School in 1967 and Bentley University (then the Bentley College of Accounting and Finance) in 1971 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
After college Brian joined the Peace Corps and served for 2 years as an accountant working directly with the Liberian government in Monrovia. While in Africa, he traveled to the neighboring West African countries of Sierra Leone, Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Togo (Togolese Republic), Ghana, Republique de Haute-Volta (Republic of Upper Volta), and Dahomey (Benin). He also visited Cameroon in Central Africa and Kenya and Tanzania in East Africa. Subsequently, he returned to Massachusetts, where he held a number of accounting positions.
Brian was an ardent baseball fan, cheering for the Boston Red Sox and using his accounting skills to carefully track games and player statistics. He was extremely knowledgeable about history and current events, and enjoyed conversations about both.
Brian cared deeply about his family. For much of his adult life, he lived with his father, Al Daggett, in the family home in Wellesley. When Al’s health declined, Brian became Al’s primary caregiver. When his older brother Steve contracted multiple myeloma, Brian found out that his bone marrow was an almost perfect match for Steve’s and he volunteered to make several trips to Bethesda, MD, to become a donor for Steve. Through this selfless act, Brian gave Steve an additional 9 years to get to know his growing sons.
Brian’s parents and brother, Albert Stephen (“Steve”) Daggett, Jr., predeceased him. He is survived by his sister-in-law Diana Jean Gilpatrick, and his nephews, Thomas Brian Gilpatrick Daggett and Samuel William Gilpatrick Daggett, all of Rockville, MD. He is also survived by his first cousin Linda A. Cerce and her husband Vincent Cerce, Sr. of Taunton, MA.
Brian’s family and friends would like to thank the staff at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln for the compassionate care they provided during the weeks prior to his passing. The family also thanks Tom Sheahan and Mary Rose Sullivan, who provided friendship and support to Brian during his final years.
