Dr. Delight Wolfe, 96, of Mystic, Connecticut passed away at home on Good Friday, March 29, 2024. She was the daughter of Edith (McColl) and Herbert Wolfe and sister to Eleanor Wolfe
Watt. Delight was born in Pawtucket, RI on September 28, 1927. She was a beloved sister, aunt and cousin, and a dear friend to many.
Delight graduated in 1950 with a B.S.N. from the five-year nursing program at Bates College associated with New England Baptist Hospital. She earned a M.Ed. and Ed.D from Boston University. She spent her entire career as a nurse educator at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, MA, retiring as the Director of the School of Nursing in 1992.
After retirement, Delight moved to the family home in Mystic, CT, and cared for her mother until her death in 2000. She lived out her retirement years surrounded by caring neighbors and immersed in the local community.
Delight had a memorable smile, was an excellent storyteller, asked meaningful questions in conversation, and exuded enthusiasm and joy in her social interactions. Delight’s faith was evident in her attitude and actions. She was a member of Park Street Church in Boston and attended Groton Bible Chapel in Groton. She participated in Bible studies and fellowship groups her entire adult life.
Delight loved music throughout her life. She played violin and piano, and was a soprano vocalist. She sang in the Park Street Church choir and the Mystic River Chorale. Delight tended to her vegetable garden and blueberry bushes. She loved to host friends and family members in her home and around her dining room table. She was the keeper of family history and was delighted to share records, artifacts, and stories with those who were interested.
Delight is survived by her sister Eleanor Watt of Madison, CT, nephew David (Debbie) Watt of Bristol, RI, nieces Nancy (Karl) Emerson of Lewisberry, PA, and Susan (Bert) Hauver of Walkersville, MD, as well as great-nephews and nieces Erick (Hilary) Emerson of Philadelphia,
PA, Ryan (Jennifer) Emerson of York, PA, Peter Emerson of Richmond, RI, Alex Watt of Encinitas, CA, Sarah Hauver of Frederick, MD, Jeffrey Watt of Hurricane, UT, Maryellen Hauver of Edgewater, MD, and Amber (Alex) Emerson Ayer of Branford, CT. She is also survived by five great-great grand nephews and nieces.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Groton Bible Chapel, Groton, CT for all family and friends. A private committal service at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic will be held at the convenience of the family.
