SPRINGFIELD – Vincent E. Cox, 91, a longtime resident of the "Shamrock House" in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Galway, Ireland on September 23, 1932, a beloved son of the late Everett F. and Annie J. (McNamara) Cox. He graduated from Springfield Technical High School and has been a resident of Hungry Hill since 1960. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army and attained the rank of Corporal. He received the Parachute Badge and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a machinist at Pratt and Whitney in Windsor Locks, CT. Vincent was a member of the John Boyle O'Reilly Club in Springfield, the Knights of Columbus Fairview Council 4044 in Chicopee, and the Pratt and Whitney Retirement Club. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Beverly D. (Laukaitis) Cox who was Called Home on April 5, 2013. He leaves his two loving and devoted children, Sheila A. Rollend of South Hadley, and Kevin J. Cox of Westfield; his cherished granddaughter, Jessica M. Rollend of South Hadley; his dear brother, Everett Cox and his partner, Adrienne Ricci, of Maine; his dear sister in law, Nancy Brosnan of Worcester; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his cherished grandson, Ryan R. Rollend who was Called Home on January 31, 2016; and his two dear sisters, Kathleen Dwinell and her husband, Robert, and Frances Zorn. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
