MEREDITH ----- Georgette Shastany, 94, passed peacefully away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Golden View Healthcare Center.
Georgette was born on September 30, 1929, in Manchester, the daughter of Alphie and Germaine (Bourcier) Carrier. The family moved to Weymouth, MA, where Georgette and her sister, Theresa, grew up and from there they moved to Laconia when Georgette was 17.
She was an avid tennis player and skier and made sure all her children learned to ski. Georgette also loved the beach and spent many summer days at Gilford Beach reading or watching her children playing in the water or taking swimming lessons. Growing up, Georgette took singing lessons and learned to play the piano which came in handy when she joined “Sweet Adelines” and was part of a singing quartet known as the “Scaliewags”. She loved this time with her friends, Alice Atherton, Kaye McDonald, and Joyce Bobotas. The girls would pack their children in the car to go along with them for a singing engagement. They would entertain and the kids would play.
Georgette is survived by her sons, Robert ‘Bob’ Shastany and Theodore ‘Ted’ Shastany; daughter, Donna Gilbert; daughter-in-law, Kelley Shastany; grandchildren, Nicholas Shastany and Noah Shastany; and great-grandchildren, Konnor Paradise and Kolin Paradise. Georgette is predeceased by her beloved husband, Theodore Shastany; their son, Michael Shastany; granddaughter, Erin Paradise; and son-in-law, Thomas Gilbert.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andre Bessette Parish - Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia, NH 03246.
A Private Burial will take place at a later date at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia.
