Obituary

John W. Young Sr. passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack at Exeter Hospital on April 6, 2024. John is survived by his wife, Rhonda, and their dogs, Tessa and Zoey; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Cristina Young; his step-son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Hattie Lally; his step-children, Jordan and Chase Blazak, and future son-in-law Madison Pape, his siblings, Joan Sparks, Beth Targee, and Fred Young; his grandchildren, Daniela, Talia, and Maeve; his ex-wives, Judy Perrone and Patti Young; many nieces, nephews, and other family members; and countless friends and colleagues. He is pre-survived by his mother, Muriel and his father, George.

John was born and raised in Boston. Despite humble beginnings and self-admittedly not being a great student, John rose to incredible heights in his career and was highly respected and lauded in his industry. He began working from a young age and held countless jobs throughout his life. John worked maintenance for apartment complexes and restaurants for years. It was impossible to drive around Massachusetts without him pointing out multiple buildings where he worked. John eventually began working in project and property management and he became the Operations Manager for World Trade Center Boston. He traveled several times to Puerto Rico, Korea and Taiwan in the 1990’s to oversee installation of World of Dinosaurs. John’s dedication to his job resulted in many promotions and escalating positions over the years and his most recent role was working as the director of Facility Operations for Northeast America for Philips. John was passionate about his work and spoke fondly of his professional accomplishments over the years.

John was loved by everyone he met and his positive energy was palpable as soon as he walked into a room. He could make new friends in any situation and always found a way to personally connect with everyone he met. Some of his favorite things included riding his Indian Roadmaster motorcycle, eating good food (especially anything with peanut butter), making dad jokes, and spending time with people he loved. He never met a task he couldn’t solve with a spreadsheet and he was an avid singer with a surprisingly good voice, often breaking into song in the middle of conversations or activities. As a self-taught, perfectionistic, jack of all trades, John never backed down from any house project and completed remodels of multiple homes. He especially loved being a Papa to Daniela, Maeve, and Talia, and was considered by many to be an international expert in funny animal noises (elephant was his specialty).

John was the happiest he has ever been over the past four years building a beautiful life with the love of his life, his wife Rhonda. They were soulmates, fell in love on their first date as their stars aligned, and have lived each day to the fullest ever since. They tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on February 3rd of this year. John and Rhonda had the absolute best of times together and their love, compatibility, and shared sense of dark humor was palpable to everyone in a room with them. Their energy together radiated deep compassion and care for each other. John was the perfect husband to Rhonda. He serenaded her with romantic melodies and showered her with love. A part of Rhonda’s heart left with him and she will love him and cherish their life together forever.

John was an incredible person who made a huge impact on the lives of so many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and his passing leaves an immeasurable gap in all of our lives.
