Obituary

Domenic "Mimi" Berardi, age 91, a longtime resident of Medford, passed away peacefully, April 7, 2024, at the Winchester Hospital following a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of the late Francesca Maria (DelVecchio) Berardi. Born in Mola di Bari, Puglia, Italy, he was the son of the late Donato and Maria (Buttaro) Berardi. Sadly, Domenic's father passed at a young age. He was lovingly raised by his mother and stepfather Nicola Mancini. Domenic came to the United States in the late 1950s, first settling in Yonkers, New York. He eventually moved to Massachusetts and settled in Everett for a period of time with his aunt and uncle, the late Yvette and Vincenzo Berardi.

Domenic was a hardworking and talented stone mason and was a proud member of the Bricklayers Union Local 3 for more than fifty years. In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening, caring for his fruit trees, and crafting his homemade wines. He loved fresh seafood and the fruits and vegetables from his garden. Domenic was a very social person and loved music and dancing, for many years he spent the winter months in Florida where he created many wonderful friendships. However his greatest joy was his family and nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by those he loved, especially his grandchildren whom he adored. He will be greatly missed.

Domenic is survived by his children, Maria Giovanna Berardi of Lowell, Rosa Maria Berardi of Medford, Donato V. Berardi and his wife Catherine of Winchester, and Margherita DeSimone and her husband Pasqualino of Medford. Loving grandfather of Michael T. Berardi, Gino C. DeSimone, Marina F. DeSimone, Isabella F. Berardi, and his name sake Domenic A. Berardi. He was the brother of Vito Mancini and his wife Santina of Medford, Crescenza Tanzi of Chicago, and her late husband Nicola. Further survived by many loving nephews and nieces.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Wednesday, April 10th, from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 11th, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 779 Fellsway West, Medford at 10 a.m. (please go directly to the church). Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Domenic's memory to the Italian Home for Children, 1125 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
