Maria Lumenia Medeiros-King, 62, of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was the beloved wife of Howard W. King.
A daughter of the late Joao M. Silva and the late Guilherminia Tavares Silva, she was born April 18, 1961 in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal and was raised and educated in Portugal. In 1970, she came to the United States with her family, settling in Lowell where she continued her education. In her thirties, she further continued her education attaining her Nursing Degree from Middlesex Community College. She worked as a pediatrics nurse at Greater Lowell Pediatrics and Lowell Community Health Center for generations, touching the lives of many families and children in our Community.
She made her home in the Back Central Street Neighborhood of the City and was always very welcoming, opening her home and heart to those around her. She was a giver and she loved to help people. She was special to her family and the friends of her children, and was a strong and resilient woman as well as an excellent mother and grandmother. She enjoyed Bingo in person or on the tablet and loved playing cards at the Club Passe Temps Club with her mother in law.
In addition to her loving husband, Howard, she is survived by her children, Sandra Medeiros, Kevin Garneau Jr., Joseph Garneau, and Jesse Garneau and his significant other, Kimberley Haley, all of Lowell; her beloved grandchildren, Riley Garneau, Calvin Gonzalez, Johnny Gonzalez, Brooklynn Garneau, Jaiden Medeiros, Noah Garneau, De'andre Rivera, and Isiah Rivera; her great grandchild, Milani Rivera; as well as her five step children.
She is also survived by her siblings, Anna Medeiros of Somerset, Eugenio Medeiros of Lowell, Carlos Medeiros and his wife, Maria, of Lowell, Ana Arcand and her husband, Robert Arcand, of Lowell, Antonio "Jose" Silva and his companion, Daniella Martineau, of Dracut, Elia Silva Medeiros of Lowell, Angelina Silva of Melbourne, FL and Diana Silva and her fiancé David Pereira Billerica; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, and dear friends she made throughout her lifetime. She is predeceased by her brother in law Gilbert Medeiros, and her good friends and former in laws Joan and Raymond Garneau.
On Tuesday, April 9, 2024 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 9 a.m. until 12 Noon at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. Her funeral service will be held at 12 Noon at the Funeral Home followed by procession to St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell, for burial.
