Obituary

Barbara M. Carr, 77, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, after a courageous battle with Colon Cancer at home with her loving family by her side. She was born October 20, 1946, to the late Joseph and Anita (LeBlanc) Poirier in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Barbara grew up in Lawrence, Gardner, and Andover MA. While living in Andover MA, Barbara met the love of her life Thomas Carr, and they married shortly after meeting. Barbara and Tom would have four daughters together. Barbara worked at Digital Corp in Westminister MA, and was transferred to Salem, NH. Barbara and Tom moved their family to Salem NH in 1978. They would then move to Londonderry, NH in 2002 to live with their daughter Pam and her family.

Barbara’s biggest joy was her family. Her best friend was her sister, Carole, they were each other’s sidekicks. Barbara and Carole would travel to Vegas for Bingo and to their cottage in PEI, Canada for vacations. They enjoyed doing crafts and creating Christmas decorations for their children and grandchildren. Barbara’s ornaments will always bring a smile to her children and grandchildren for many Christmases to come.

Barbara was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in December of 2015, given the severity of the disease, she was told she may survive 2-5 years but with her strength and determination to be here for her family, she survived for 8 years before the cancer won.

Barbara is survived by her daughters: Pamala Bisson of Londonderry, NH, Theresa Mayer of Chester, NH, Deborah Haskins of Candia, NH, and Nicole Cookingham of Lowell, MA. Her Sisters: Joanne Godfrey of Templeton, MA, Carole Aufiero of Salem, NH, and her brother William Poirier of Leominster MA. Barbara leaves behind eight grandchildren: Kim, Nicole, Bobby, Michelle, Matt, Zachary, Justin, and Rachel, she also leaves behind five great-grandchildren: Cameren, Leigha, William, Penny, and Lincoln, as well as several nieces and nephews. Barbara cherished her family most of all and will be missed each and every day.

Barbara is predeceased by her husband Tom in 2002, her son Joseph Sherman, daughter Tracy Leigh, and her brother Robert Poirier

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11:30 AM in the funeral home. The burial will be on Tuesday April 16, 2024 at 10:00am in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mammoth Rd., Londonderry.

Her daughters would like to thank the team at Amedysis Hospice Care, Bedford, NH. The team provided exceptional care and support for the last four months and especially the last two weeks of Barbara’s life.
