Jonah Woudty Nong, 58, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away on Sunday, March 31 at Genesis Westford House after a period of declining health and a lengthy struggle with chronic illnesses.
He was born on October 7, 1965 in Battambang, Cambodia. A son of the late Dahm Nong and Sung Lach, who survives him, he came to the United States as a boy in April of 1983. The family settled at first in Fort Worth, Texas, before eventually relocating to Lowell. He briefly lived in California where he met his wife and was married before returning to the Lowell area where he lived the rest of his life.
Jonah worked as a chemical technician for many years before his illness forced his retirement recently. He also kept up to date with all the latest financial markets, technology and was always on the cutting edge of the modern world. Hard work was the cornerstone of Jonah’s life. His work ethic, instilled in him from his roots in Cambodia and nurtured by his American dream in the United States, will be a part of his legacy. The biggest part of his legacy though, will forever be his children and grandchildren. He always enjoyed family gatherings and was an ever present source of generosity and quiet wisdom.
Besides his Mother, Sung, he is also survived by his wife, Hun J. Ros of Andover, his 3 children, MaryKatherine Mey of Tyngsboro, Jeremiah Mey of Nashua, NH and Chanranchannie Nong of Andover, his 3 grandchildren Renesmee, Lance and Noah (expected in a few weeks).
He is also survived by his siblings, Rindo Nong of Fort Worth, Texas, Rindy Nong of Palm Coast, Florida, Rod Prenn of Hurst, Texas, Lee Kim of Euless, Texas, Seyla Mey of North Richland Hills, Texas, Rebekah Cox of Billerica.
He was the father of the late Jeffrey Nong.
