PETERS, Joan (Vogel), 67, a longtime resident of Needham, Massachusetts, passed away in her home on March 25, 2024 after a long illness. She was the daughter of Edward and Stella Vogel. She was born in Boston Massachusetts on December 4, 1956. She attended St. Bartholomew School and Needham High School.
As the fourth of nine children, Joanie gained some of her most endearing qualities. She had a quick wit, a wonderful laugh, and unending patience. She loved her very large family and was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, and aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Her family remembers her love of cooking, reading, taking short walks, chatting on the phone, and shopping for her family members. She was a loyal Patriots and Red Sox fan. Joanie was also a cat-lover. She enjoyed spending time by the ocean at her family’s home on Old Silver Beach in Falmouth where she could count on plenty of good company and a beautiful sunset. Joanie faced many struggles throughout her life, yet she also found ways to volunteer for organizations in need of her time and talents. In the past years, she offered her time to the library in Newton and the Perkins Institute for the Blind.
Joan was predeceased by her husbands, Christopher Peters, and Malcolm Muir, her parents, her siblings Thomas Vogel and Donald Vogel and her nephew Matthew Christian.
Joan is survived by her siblings: Robert Vogel of West Boylston, MA, Dorothy O'Neil and her husband Kevin, of Franconia, NH, Allie Christian of Myrtle Beach, SC, Kenneth Vogel and his wife Wendy of East Falmouth, MA, sister-in-law, Nancy Vogel of Mansfield, MA, Paul Vogel of Wareham, MA, and Mary Hunter and her husband Darcy of West Falmouth, MA. She is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews, and 11 grand nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 1305 Highland Ave. Needham on Tuesday, April 9th from 9:30-10:30am, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Bartholomew Church, Needham at 11am. Relatives & friends kindly invited. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.
