Antonio DiSpena, age 85, of Danvers and a former longtime resident of Medford, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 2, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Maria B. (Gelpi) DiSpena. Born in Bella di Nicastro, Italy, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Maria C. (Cavalieri) DiSpena.
Antonio came to the United States at the age of 15. He worked for more than sixty years as a talented and trusted barber. He worked for many years in the West End of Boston and eventually owned and operated the Market Terminal Barber Shop in Everett until his retirement. When not working, Antonio enjoyed going to bingo, bowling, watching baseball and golf on the television, and taking long walks. He also enjoyed socializing with his many friends in the deaf and hearing impaired community. However, his greatest joy was his family, nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by those he loved and cared about.
Antonio is lovingly survived by his children, Salvatore DiSpena and his wife Nicole of Reading, Lisa Scapicchio and her husband Peter of Ipswich, and Linda Maganzini of Reading. He was the loving grandfather of Alana, Lilliana, Anthony, Sophia, Robert, Rosalia and AJ. Cherished brother of Giuseppe "Val" DiSpena and his wife Denise of Arlington, and Giovanna Finore and her husband Mario of Rome, Italy.
Funeral Services will be held from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Monday, April 8th, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, at 11:30 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
