Obituary

Ethel Theresa (Moscardini) Bonaccorsi, 102 years and 10 months loved, a longtime resident of Medford, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024. She was born in Somerville on May 26, 1921, the only child of the late Mansueto and Maria (Ferranti) Moscardini. She was the loving wife of Adelmo Bonaccorsi, with whom she shared 39 years of marriage until his passing in 1985. Ethel was raised in Somerville, and graduated from Somerville High School before attending Boston University, where she earned her Associate Degree from the College of Practical Arts and Letters in 1941.

After graduating from BU, she went to work for Charles J. Connick, a prominent stained-glass craftsman. She left after five years to get married and raise a family. She later went back to work at Crosby Jewelers in downtown Medford until her retirement. She remained active in BU alumni work for many years.

A devout Catholic, Ethel was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Medford. She was very involved in parish activities, was a Eucharistic Minister, and served on the Finance Committee. She volunteered to clean the church, wash the altar linens, was a member of Sodality, and led an ARISE group at her home. She enjoyed the company of her many friends from the church community, often sharing breakfast and dinner and taking day trips together.

Ethel loved to travel, especially taking cruises with her husband Adelmo, and later taking trips with her friends. She was a very active woman, working the voting polls for the City of Medford, and acting as treasurer of the Riverview Condominiums where she lived, and was always there to help her many friends in any way they needed. She enjoyed baking and sewing for the family, sitting on her deck, chatting with her friends from the condo, feeding the birds, and occasionally enjoying her favorite gin and tonic.

She is survived by her three children, Claudia Sarney and husband Donald of Pembroke, MA; Adrienne Bonaccorsi and husband Daniel Dion of Chelmsford, MA who were her loving and devoted caregivers; and Peter Bonaccorsi and wife Constance of Merrimack, NH. Ethel was the adored “Nonna” of five grandchildren, Christina Sarney, Stephen Sarney, Laura (Bonaccorsi) Sciarra and husband Brandon, Kendra (Bonaccorsi) Potelle and husband Jacob, and Sara Dion. She was “B” to her four great-grandchildren, Catherine and Emily Sarney, and Mark and Ethan Sciarra.

Ethel’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visitation will be held in the Beals-Geake Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave, Medford, MA on Tuesday, prior to the mass, from 9 to 11 AM.
