Lawrence “Larry” P. Bederian, 77, of Franklin died March 31 at his home following a long illness. He was the husband of Janet (Dean) Bederian for the past 53 years.
Born in Milford, February 25, 1947, the son of the late Barsam “Henry” and Catherine (Burton) Bederian, Larry was a lifelong Franklin resident. A 1966 graduate of Franklin High School, Larry was a truck driver and a foreman at a construction company.
Larry served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War attaining the rank of Corporal. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the Rifle Marksman Badge and Good Conduct Medal.
Larry was the longtime Commander and bartender at the Franklin VFW Post #3402, which was awarded the All American Post multiple times during his tenure. Larry was long active in Veterans affairs in Franklin and was instrumental in the building of the Veteran’s Memorial Walkway on the Town Common.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Lawrence M. of Franklin, Jeffrey of Franklin and Lori of Bellingham. He is survived by his brother Barsam of Franklin and was the brother of the late Charles, Harry, Leo, David, Barbara Meyer, Priscilla Sheridan and Elizabeth Ober. Larry is also survived by his grandchildren, several in-laws and cousins as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at the Franklin VFW on Saturday, May 11 from 1-4 p.m. Please dress casually.
