Ruth M. (Vaniderstine) Thomas, age 93, of Norton, formerly of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard F. Thomas, who died in 1989.
Born in Dedham, MA on August 8, 1930, she was a loving daughter of the late Harry and Elsie V. Vaniderstine.
Ruth grew up in Dedham and was a graduate of Dedham High School. In addition to living in Norton and Mansfield, she had also resided in Brockton, Whitman and California. Prior to retiring, Mrs. Thomas had worked at Codex in Mansfield and Beckman in Brea, California.
Ruth very much enjoyed times spent at the Mansfield Council on Aging, while socializing with friends and painting portraits. She was an avid shopper, always looking for a good deal, and had a special place for the much-loved cats that frequented her home over the years.
She was the devoted mother of Karen Parsons and her husband Jerry of Tennessee, Rick Thomas and his Nancy of Illinois, Randy Thomas of Taunton and the late Kurt Thomas. She was the sister of the late John Vaniderstine and is also survived by her 4 cherished grandchildren.
Services, along with burial, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be private.
