CHICOPEE – Edward W. Pikul, 82, of Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving wife and family. He was born in Holyoke on November 20, 1941, a beloved son of the late Edward J. Pikul who was Called Home on July 3, 1997 and Janina (Pyzik) Pikul who was Called Home on November 4, 2001. He was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Holyoke High School, and moved to Chicopee in 1963 where he lived the remainder of his life. He was the Purchasing Agent at T-W Automotive in West Springfield and then at West Springfield Auto Parts and retired on November 20, 2008. During his retirement, he was a Crossing Guard for the Chicopee Public Schools. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 90 in Holyoke. He enjoyed coaching baseball, and cheering on the Red Sox and Duke Mens’ Basketball. He will be fondly remembered for building ice rinks in the winter for his children and neighborhood friends. For years, he played saxophone and clarinet with polka bands and was frequently featured on a local television program called “Polka Time.” Lovingly known as “the Lawn Father,” he was proud of his gorgeous green lawn and could often be heard saying, “Time to mow!” He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Dorothea R. (Fountain) Pikul. They were married on June 1, 1963 at Holy Cross Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving and devoted children, David E. Pikul and his partner, Beverly Bournique, of Chicopee, and Deborah A. Zent and her husband, Robert, of Austin, TX; his four cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey Pikul Jr. and his wife, Jordan, David Pikul, Todd Bournique, and Jenna Bournique and her fiancé, William Pelissier; his four cherished great grandchildren, Blaze Pikul, Noelle Pikul, Davon Bournique, and Treyton Brunault; and his extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two beloved sons, Jeffrey C. Pikul who was Called Home on November 18, 1990 and Christopher D. Pikul who was Called Home on August 21, 1998. His burial will be private at Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
