Jack Charles Crisco, June 8, 1927 – March 27, 2024
Jack Charles Crisco, age 96, a resident of East Bridgewater, MA and formerly of Cleveland, TN, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024, of natural causes.
He was born in Landis, NC, the son of Bingham Armstead Crisco and Josie Sides Crisco.
Jack served in the Navy as a gunner aboard the USS LSMR 406 and the USS Kankakee. He was in the Asia-Pacific region and received the Victory Medal World War II. After serving his country he obtained his barber’s license and opened a shop. He owned barber shops in OH, SC and TN. He owned shops until the age of 81.
In his mid 30's he felt called to the ministry and proceeded to obtain his ministerial degree and ordination. Along with barbering, he pastored churches in SC, OH, MI and TN. He served as Dean at Free Gospel Bible Institute in PA. After retiring from ministry to care for his wife, he became a member of Westmore Church of God in Cleveland, TN where he served in various capacities for over 30 years. After moving to MA to live with his daughter, Vickie, he attended Brockton Assembly of God.
Jack’s hobbies were many: He enjoyed repairing his own cars, building his own garages, gardening, fishing, hunting and road trips - most of all. He was a monthly blood donor for over 25 years. He was known for crazy food combinations such as pickles and mayonnaise. In his last year he ate Miracle Whip like ice cream, drank maple syrup like Mountain Dew, poured salt on everything; and insisted on using a straw since Covid! He would break into songs of praise at any moment and joined others in singing praises right up until the end. He never lost sight of Christ as His Savior, Redeemer and Friend. He was always saying, “I don’t know what I’d do without Jesus. He will never leave me. I’m never alone.”
He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Barbara Jean Pruitt Crisco, his daughter Sylvia Dianne Crisco Griffey and granddaughter, Amy Griffey Pigg, in addition to his parents, brothers and sisters: Kenneth, Floyd, Sam, Jimmy, Margaret, and Loveda Crisco Weeston.
He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Crisco Warner, and her husband, Dr. R. Steven Warner, of E. Bridgewater, MA. and his grandchildren: Tamara Warner Pool and her husband Jason of Des Moines, IA; Sean Warner and his wife Kimberly of Bartlett, IL; Tiffany Warner Chapman and her husband Phil of Greenbrier, TN; R. Courtney Warner and his wife Mindy of Nashville, TN; Andrea Griffey Shope and her husband Jamie of Woodstock, GA; Sarah Griffey Medlin and her husband Clark of Dyersburg, TN; grandson-in-law, Michael Pigg, and his wife, Donida of Cleveland, TN; and Debra Griffey Moore along with her husband, Josh, of Kennesaw, GA.
He also leaves behind 29 great-grandchildren: Theodore Pool, Warner Pool, Annie Pool, Ever Warner, Vaughn Warner, Madeline Warner, Fletcher Moore, Lila Chapman, Riley Warner, Penny Warner, Tucker Shope, Hannah Shope, Catherine Shope, Josie Shope, Ava Medlin, Jonas Medlin, Jonathon Pigg, Matthew Pigg, Torrie McIntyre, Taylor McIntyre, Joseph Moore, Emma Moore, Bennett Moore, William Moore, Maria Moore, Diana Moore, Andrew Moore. Jack also had 3 great-great grandchildren: Levi and Oliver McIntyre and Amy Grace Pigg. Other family members include his son-in-law, Jim Griffey, husband of his daughter, Sylvia Dianne Crisco Griffey, who passed away in 2019.
Jack’s brother Sam’s wife, Judy Royster Crisco, also survives him along with their children in Ohio: Sylvia Crisco Wester (Chris), Sam, Jr. (Jennifer), Toni Crisco Abele (Pat), Tracy Lesher, Stacie Hanthron (Tim); Loveda Crisco Weeston’s children: Adina Weeston Hoshour (Dave) of NC, Tom Weeston (Judy) of MO and Floyd’s daughter, Felica Crisco Sweeney (Mike) of MI plus many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the Brockton Assembly of God family for taking Jack under their wing. Their visits, cards, and encouragement to him over the years have been a source of strength.
Special thanks also to all the wonderful healthcare professionals at the Veterans Medical Center in Brockton, West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain for their consistent encouragement and stellar care over the past several years. They made trips for medical necessities a delight rather than a drudgery. They were continually helpful, kind, and outstanding in their care and concern.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11 AM at Brockton Assembly of God, 199 Warren Ave., Brockton, MA. Rev. Dr. R. Steven Warner will officiate. Interment will be on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 11:30 AM at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7180 N. Lee Highway, Cleveland, TN.
