Samantha "Sam" Gammons, a resident of Salem, Massachusetts and beloved spouse of Lena M. “Leo” Taylor, passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a long illness on Monday morning, March 25, 2024. She was 39 years old.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, she was the beloved daughter of Phillip W. and Ruth A. (Planchon) Gammons. Samantha was employed as a Faculty Administrator for Boston University. Prior to this she was Operations and Safety Manager at School Year Abroad (SYA) in Andover, Mass, a Program Administrator at the Harvard Ash Center, and China Regional Coordinator at Holt International in Eugene, Oregon. She was a graduate of Miss Porters School in Farmington, Connecticut, and received her B.A. at Mount Holyoke College. Sam earned her Masters in Global Studies at the University of Oregon. At age 16 Sam lived and studied in Beijing with SYA during her junior year at Miss Porters.
Sam’s work life was characterized by a spirit of service and being an advocate for justice and fairness. She helped to bridge differences and promote unity. Sam had an exceptional singing voice with perfect pitch. She will be dearly missed.
Besides her beloved spouse, Lena and parents; Phillip and Ruth, Sam is survived by her mother and father-in-law; Robert Taylor and Amy Bower of Derry, New Hampshire, loving brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Brad and his wife Emily Taylor and their son, Peter Taylor of Somerville, aunts; Kathy Coderre of Plainfield, Connecticut, Suzanne and her husband Anil Kumar of Washington DC, Lisa LaRochelle and her partner, Jeff Cobb of Plainfield, Connecticut, Annette Bakstran and her husband Paul of Berlin MA and uncles; Jeff and his wife Sandy Gammons of New Milford, Connecticut, Boyd and his wife Lisa Eastman of East Hartford, Connecticut, and great aunt Judy Morgridge and many cousins and friends. Sam was pre-deceased by her biological father Glenn Eastman of Norwich, Conn.
