Obituary

Adelino V. Lourenco, 89 of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at home in his sleep. He was the husband of Maria T. (Azera) Lourenco, with whom he shared the last 67 years of marriage.

He was born on November 27, 1934, in Terceira, Azores, Portugal, the son of the late Antonio G. Lourenco and Maria E. Vieira. He was raised in Terceira, where he attended local schools. In Portugal, he worked as a house painter.

Adelino met and married Maria in Terceira, and they relocated together to the United States in 1975, initially settling in Somerville before making their home in Dracut for 35 years. More recently, they resided in Tewksbury. Adelino was a communicant of St. Marguerite D’Youville Parish in Dracut. He dedicated years of service to KLH in Cambridge and then the Faculty Club at Harvard University where he retired after 16 years.

Adelino was an active member of the Faialense Sport Club and had a deep passion for soccer, particularly supporting the Porto team, of which he was a longtime fan. Known for his good sense of humor, he enjoyed spending leisure time at casinos, trying his luck at the slots. However, his greatest joy came from spending quality time with his family, creating cherished memories together.

In addition to his wife, Maria of Tewksbury, he is survived by his children, Adelino S. Lourenco and his wife, Sheila of Lowell, Elizabeth M. Perez and her husband, Orlando of Wakefield, and Jose B. Lourenco and his wife, Helen of Lowell; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; his sister in law, Garciomilde Medeiros of Tewksbury; and several nieces and nephews.

He was welcomed into heaven by his parents and his daughter, the late Suzanna Lourenco; his son, Carlos Lourenco; his daughter, Graca Lourenco; his brother in law, Tomas Medeiros and several siblings.

On Monday, April 1, 2024 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. His funeral mass will be offered at 11 a.m. at St. Marguerite D’Youville Parish, 1340 Lakeview Ave., Dracut. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury.
