WILLIAM L. MONTGOMERY OBITUARY
William Lee Montgomery, 77, of Cookport, PA went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 25, 2024 at his home.
The son of Delbert H. and Ruth E. (Bennett) Montgomery, he was born on January 9, 1947 in New Florence, PA.
Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from April 1966 until April 1970 earning the rank of Sergeant.
He was a member of the Plum Church.
On September 23, 1972, he married the former Roberta “Bobbie” Lee Kanarr and they have shared over fifty-one years of marriage together.
Bill worked as a maintenance supervisor at Indiana University of PA for twenty-three years until his retirement in 2008.
He enjoyed hunting and mowing his lawn, as well as the Plum Church lawn.
Bill was an all-around handyman, who was very good at woodworking and carpentry. Bill liked building things. He helped remodel the homes of several of his family members. If he wasn’t fixing something for someone, then someone was asking Bill for advice on how to fix things themselves.
Bill was devoted to his family and thoroughly loved spoiling his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Bobbie; his two children: Steven Montgomery and wife Crystal of Brush Valley, PA; Lisa Murdock and husband Craig of Cookport, PA; his five grandchildren: Autumn and Aedyn Montgomery and Stella, Brenna and Leena Murdock; his brother, David Montgomery and wife Carol of Vienna, VA; his two sisters: Lois Lockhart of Howell, MI and Carol Montgomery of Commodore, PA and his mother-in-law: Margaret Kanarr of Commodore, PA.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his sister: Linda Cooke; his brother-in-law: Gary Lockhart and his nephew: Josh Eyler.
Family and friends will be received from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA. Viewing will continue from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the 11:00 a.m. funeral Service on Friday, March 29, 2024 at the Plum Church located at 17107 Rte. 286 Hwy E., Commodore, PA 15729. Pastor Raymond Hill will officiate. Interment with military honors by the US Marine Corps will follow at the Cookport Methodist Cemetery in Cookport, PA.
