We celebrate the life of George Waldron Russell, III who left this world peacefully at his home in Smithfield, Rhode Island on March 22, 2024, in the presence of his loving wife of 34 years, Rosellen Prest Russell. His legacy lives on in his children George W. (Jaye) Russell IV of Rainsville, AL, David C. (Laura) Russell of Des Moines, IA; William N. (Michelle) Russell of Marion, OH; Lisa (Homer) Couture of Chepachet RI; and David (Maureen) Domenicone of Wellesley, MA. and a wealth of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents George W. Russell, Jr. and Alice Jean (Booker) Russell, as well as his sister Donna Jean (Steven) Brown.
George was born in 1932 in Brockton, MA. George graduated from Barrington High school, where he was an avid swimmer (once swimming from Barrington Beach to Rocky Point Beach). After high school, George served honorably in the US Army, stationed at Ft. Hood in Texas. It was this experience that led to his position as a past Commander of the Rhode Island Amvets.
Professionally, George served with “the phone company” (ultimately AT&T) as a Computer Operative Technician for 42 years before retiring.
George was well-liked by his many friends in Rhode Island and in Florida, where he and Rosellen spent many of his retiring years before returning home to Rhode Island last year. He was a member of Tri-Boro Corvette Club, and enjoyed attending Corvette cruise-ins and travelling via Corvette (including touring the country to visit the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky.) He also explored a passion for photography over the years, as well as a love of crossword puzzles. He was a Patriots fan for decades.
He will be missed by those who loved and remember him fondly. A private funeral was held. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Ministry of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Greenville, RI. or the charity of your choice.
