Obituary

Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Kennedy passed away peacefully on March 14th, 2024 at Mystic Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, where she resided for nearly seven years.
Libby was born on October 25th, 1930 to Edgar and Mabel (Wright) Keller in Harrisburg, PA. After graduating from Dickinson College class of 1952, she began a teaching career in Pennsylvania. During the fifties, Libby attended several Broadway musicals and continued to reminisce about those happy occasions thereafter. She loved the old songs and was even witnessed singing a duet with her much loved Dr. Bontempi - in the office no less! In 1966 Libby and Gordon Kennedy married and settled in the Mystic area where she taught grades five and six at Broadway School in Stonington. After Gordon’s sudden death in 1980, Libby worked at the Mystic Seaport Museum giving cooking and weaving demonstrations and participating in Lantern Light Tours. Libby attended The Road Church for many years and was actively involved in teaching Sunday school, helping at Awana, singing in the choir and helping to prepare the chowder for the annual Fair. Volunteering at the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival was also a favorite time for her.
Libby was a “colorful”, one-of-a-kind, unique soul, who loved, amused, and cheered on her friends and their children (who could do no wrong in her eyes!). She enjoyed tennis, music, going to the beach, social occasions, and her cozy apartment on Roosevelt Ave. She will be fondly remembered and missed by her faithful friend and college roommate, Eileen Durgin, by her loving, caring sister-in-law, Linda Shaulinski, and by a circle of good friends and acquaintances, who all have plenty of “Libby stories” to tell.
Many thanks to all the staff at Mystic Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center who cared for Libby with kindness, patience, and respect. A service in her honor will be held on Friday May 10, 2024 at 1:30 pm at The Road Church, 903 Pequot Trial, Stonington, CT.
