CHICOPEE – Helen A. (McCoart) Desrochers, 99, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on June 15, 1924 a beloved daughter of the late John and Alice (Lemelin) McCoart. She was raised in Holyoke and attended the High School of Commerce in Springfield. She moved to Chicopee in 1948 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was last employed as a receptionist for Dr. Bowdin at Providence Hospital in Holyoke. She was a communicant of the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Chicopee where she served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Women’s Guild. She was an active member as well as the exercise leader for over 19 years at the Chicopee Senior Center and was a longtime volunteer at Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen and Pantry in Chicopee. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Leonard R. Desrochers who was Called Home on September 17, 1998. They were married on May 17, 1944 at Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield and they were blessed with over 54 years of happiness together. She leaves her four loving and devoted children, Ken Desrochers of Chicopee, Lenny Desrochers and his wife, Ruth, of Granby, Larry Desrochers and his wife, Lori, of Chicopee, and Debbie Desrochers and her husband, Dennis Johnson, of Mount Shasta, CA; her seven cherished grandchildren; her eight cherished great grandchildren; her three cherished great-great grandchildren; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her two dear brothers, Charlie and John McCoart; and her dear sister, Alice Mastroianni. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.). The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Prayer Service at Saint Rose Cemetery, 226 Granby Road, South Hadley, MA 01075.
