SANFORD- Sanford- Shirley Marie (Legere) Quimby, age 81, passed away on March 19, 2024 after a short illness.
She was born in Sanford, Maine on September 3, 1942, a daughter of the late Lorenzo and Olive (Dolloff) Legere.
After attending school in Sanford, Shirley went to work for many years at Vishay Sprague. After her well deserved retirement from Vishay, she transitioned to work in various roles at the Acton and Sanford school system cafeterias. She really enjoyed working with the kids and often spoke of memorable experiences and of the smiles and love that the kids showed towards her.
Shirley enjoyed spending summers in Down-East Robbinston, Maine with Glen, her beloved late husband of 37 years. She loved camping, fishing, and oh so enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. She enjoyed the beautiful sunrises and the gentle ocean breezes during these visits. Wherever she was, Shirley met many good friends and always had fun while playing her favorite pastime game -Bingo.
Shirley’s greatest pleasures came from spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She always enjoyed taking the grandchildren to the orchards or berry fields to harvest whatever was in season.
Shirley was a member of the Sanford Elks Lodge 1470, where she provided many home-cooked meals.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband - Glen T. Quimby who passed away in 2007
Shirley is survived by her children- Cathy (Francis) Martineau, Norman (Donna) Michaud, Lonnie (Marcia) Michaud, Glen (Dottie) Quimby, Tracey Quimby, Terri Costner and Toni (Gary) Smith; sisters- Connie Day, Joanne Vail (Norman Heald) and Becky (Linc) Marston; brother- Bud (Sandy) Legere; grandchildren- Jennifer, Nicole, Amy, Kevin, Thomas and Robert; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank everyone who gave, and continues to give, tremendous love and support throughout this difficult time.
A private burial at Brewer Cemetery in Robbinston, Maine will be held sometime later this spring.
Shirley was treated with the utmost care and dignity while at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine and the family will appreciate memorial donations to them if you wish.
