Alice Ruth Ray Tyson, 77, of Chula passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Adel Memorial Hospital. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. R. V. Williams officiating. Mrs. Tyson was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Born May 21, 1927, in Berrien County, Mrs. Tyson was the daughter of the late Lee Ray and Pauline Stephens Ray. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Emmette Donald Tyson; one son, Stephen Lee Tyson, who passed away on May 25, 2002; and two brothers, James R. Ray and Aubrey Ray. Before retiring, she worked as a secretary for the Tift County Road Department; and she was a member of Chula United Methodist Church. She had lived in Chula her entire life.
Mrs. Tyson is survived by one son, Dr. Rodney Tyson of Adel; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Juanita Rowe of Tifton, Joyce and Charles Harmon of Arcadia, Florida and Yvonne Spellman of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Lori Tyson and J. R. Tyson, both of Valdosta; and a very special, long-time friend, Danette Sawyer.
