Jean Patricia (Healy) Modliszewski, 88, died on March 13th just days shy of her St. Patrick’s Day birthday. She was born in Hartford to the late Francis and Madeline Healy. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Walter Modliszewski Jr., and her brother Dr. Francis Healy Jr. She is survived by her three children; Mary Jean Modliszewski of Manchester, Dr. Andrea Lundell (John) of Garland, Texas, and Walter Modliszewski III (Teresa Abate) of Tolland, and her two grandchildren; Madeline and John Lundell.
Jean attended Mount St. Joseph Academy in West Hartford and graduated from St. Joseph College in West Hartford, where she majored in French with a minor in English and History. Prior to her marriage, Jean taught French at Canton High School. While raising her children, she continued to be a substitute teacher and tutor in French and English in the Town of West Hartford. She also taught at The University of Hartford English Language Institute and Learning Skills Center. She helped organize and operate a school for Polish immigrants at Atlantic Aerospace in Newington. Prior to her retirement, she taught English as a second language (ESL) for the City of New Britain’s Adult Education program.
Jean spent the majority of her adult life living in West Hartford where she was a communicant at St. Brigid Church and was involved in various committees and councils. She and her husband enjoyed their retirement living in Groton Long Point where she was active in a book club, the Groton Senior Center, St. Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church, and the Groton Long Point Women’s Organization. Jean loved to cook, read, and mostly spend time with family and friends.
Jean’s family invites you to join them at a mass to celebrate her life on April 13th at 10:00 AM at St. Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton, CT. There are no calling hours, and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers and to honor Jean’s giving spirit, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
